出逢う

であう
To meet by chance, to have a date with.

The two meanings seem mutually exclusive...

出逢った男 <== Does this mean a guy I met by chance or a guy I had a date with?

空中線

くうちゅうせん
Antenna

Can you believe I have this ugly gigantic antenna in my living room for HDTV? I bought it to have it mounted inside the attic, but unfortunately it's too big to get through. I hope this is just a temporary solution.

さくらんぼう

桜桃
Cherry

Was reading something and saw this in hiragana. I thought Cherry in Japanese is still cherry in katakana... So good to know Sakuranbou = cherry. Summer is Cherry season and Whole Foods Market is a good place to get some. I am so glad my house is just a biking distance away! :-)

相性の良い

Aishoo no ii
(Good) compatible

I didn't know what 相性 mean and so did a search.
相性の良否 (りょうひ)
相性の良い異性 (いせい)
僕と相性の良い女性の生年月日(せいねんがっぴ)
相性の良い人を捜す。(さがす)

Looks like there are a lot of sites out there that talk about the type of people compatible to you or people looking for compatible future husband/wife. Hmm... I am more interested in this delicious site.

知財

ちざい
Chizai
Intellectual property

This must be a relatively new kanji since I would imagine it only came about 30 years ago. I have been so busy with work and other stuff that Mainichi Nihongo has become impossible. Maybe I should change this blog to Ichinichijuu Shigoto instead!

用意

ようい
Yooi
Prepare; preparation

いつも日本茶、コ-ヒ-、紅茶は用意してます
I always prepare Japanese tea, coffee, (English) tea

The meaning of this word in Japanese is very different from Chinese. It's means "intention" in Chinese but "preparation" in Japanese.

*容易 is the same pronounciation.

しゅうかん

Juukan, can be any of the following:

週刊 Something published weekly
習慣 Your habits, something you are used to doing
週間 weekly, counter for time - one week, two weeks...

(収監 imprisonment and 終刊 cease publication also have the same pronounciation but will probably be less commonly used)

Will need to listen carefully to differentiate.

Yoshiki Hayashi

I can't believe he cleaned up so well and now actually looks like someone I know! Good for him to drop the X-Japan look.

むずむず

Muzumuzu
Itchy, impatient

*Heard this word on TV today, it will come in handy when the 花粉症シーズン到来! My brother-in-law spoke to me in Japanese on the phone earlier today and caught me off-guarded. Good thing at least I completely understood what he was saying and can answer back saying , "Yah", "I know.." and "I have not been studying because I am a little busy", nado nado.

Also, I stumbled on to this page:
http://www.tatsunoko.co.jp/Works/English/
I have seen at least half of them!! Definitely good childhood memories!! :-)
